We recently embarked on an unforgettable adventure to the 2023 Snowflake Summit in Las Vegas. The premier event didn’t disappoint in bringing together industry leaders, data enthusiasts, and innovative minds from around the world to explore the latest trends, advancements, and best practices in data management, analytics, and the future of the Snowflake Data Cloud. From inspiring keynote speeches to hands-on workshops, the Snowflake Summit 2023 provided attendees with invaluable insights and practical knowledge.
1. Keynote Presentations:
The conference commenced with an electrifying keynote presentation from Frank Slootman that set the tone Las Vegas-style: “There is a drinking game, every time I say AI you have to do a shot.” The topic of Generative AI, and the role that Snowflake will play, was obviously well positioned throughout the entire conference. Esteemed leadership from Snowflake took the stage to carry on the theme of, “No Limits On Data” with new product features and enhancements such as:
Document AI:
Snowflake's acquisition of Applica last year has enabled them to launch a new capability for extracting value from unstructured data, such as PDF documents.
Snowpark:
Several new features to enhance Snowpark were presented to the community. These features include Snowpark Container Services, where containerization will help "scoop up" any function that already exists and run it in Snowflake. These containers will also host LLM models to be addressed by the applications themselves.
Snowflake Native Application Framework:
Users can now build and sell applications on the Snowflake Marketplace (a key positioning from Summit' 22), expanding the ecosystem of available apps and promoting innovation within the platform.
Streamlit:
Streamlit continues to gain importance within the Snowflake ecosystem as a popular tool to build data applications. With over 2000 applications already on Snowflake, new capabilities were announced; including conversational AI and machine learning functions.
Iceberg Tables Enhancements:
Snowflake's Iceberg tables have undergone enhancements, now performing on par with tables for queries.
